Two routes:

The main one is called Urizarreta. It is the shortest path (1.2 km) but also the steepest (35% slope) and has stairs. This route starts next to the Eneperi restaurant and follows the route downhill, follow the signs and pathway directly to the monument.
The second one is the Ermu route. It is a little longer (1.6 km) but easier. In addition to being less steep (15%), the entire path runs on a paved road with no traffic (and no stairs!).

One of Bilbao’s most emblematic spots is Mount Artxanda. Walking up it offers the possibility of discovering the city from another angle. However, there are more comfortable and quicker means of ascending, such as the funicular or the bus.

Funicular

Times: Monday to Saturday: 7.15 to 22.00 h. Sundays and Public holidays: 8.15 to 22.00 h. From June to September inclusive, the service is extended until 23.00 h on Fridays, Saturdays and eves of public holidays. During the Bilbao festivities, the service will run until 00:00 h.

Opened in 1915, this cable railway, the ‘funi’, reveals an essential perspective view of the city. In barely 3 minutes it reaches to Mount Artxanda, whose summit not only provides exceptional views of metropolitan Bilbao, but also makes it possible to enjoy relaxing walks and taste excellent local cuisine.

Trains depart every quarter of an hour. The access station (Plaza del Funicular, s/n) is a 10-minute walk from the City Hall.
